Barry & Nephews Muscat Pot Still Brandy
Re: Barry & Nephews Muscat Pot Still Brandy
Lijkt me een leuke Brandy Wilmar!

“Most exciting, unusual character that captivates the mind and proves that brandy can have a totally different style and still offer high quality.”
This is the International Wine and Spirits Competition judges’ comment on Barrydale Wine Cellar’s Barry & Nephews Muscat Potstill Brandy, the brandy that earned the cellar its first IWSC gold medal as well as the nomination as “best in class” in the category for three to five-year old brandies.
“It’s a dream come true,” says Riaan Marais, winemaker at Barrydale Wine Cellar and Southern Cape Vineyards (SCV) general manager. “We launched Barry & Nephews Muscat Potstill Brandy in 2002 as alternative to our established potstill brandy, Joseph Barry Cape Potstill Brandy. At the time Barry & Nephews was one of the few South African brandies to be made from Muscat d’Alexandrie – hanepoot as we know it.”
The hanepoot gives Barry & Nephews the unmistakable aroma of the varietal as well as a delicate hint of honeysuckle. It has a delicious, rich mouthfeel and spicy flavour. The brandy is distilled according to time-honoured methods in copper stills before being aged in French oak where the distinct flavours are softened and enriched.
At the same time it was announced that the five-year-old Joseph Barry Cape Potstill Brandy distilled from St Emillion and Colombar, was awarded its second silver medal for its “super, full, well-rounded mouth full of fruit, spice and well used oak”.
Because the distillation process is a slow one, the brandies are made in limited quantities every year. Only 4 000 cases of Barry & Nephews and 5 000 of Joseph Barry were made last year. The brandies are available from select liquor stores countrywide; Barry & Nephews retails at around R150 and Joseph Barry at around R160.

Echt lekker spul.
