Treating myself to something nice tonight to help with the sleeping

Begin deze week heb ik nog een paar glaasjes Ragnaud - Sabourin Fontvieille gedronken. Dit blijft toch een hele goeie cognac, hoor. Ik heb daarna nog eens een single malt whisky gedronken (Glengoyne 1972 The Whisky Agency) en het verschil met de cognac is hemels groot. Ik vond de Fontvieille stukken beter dan de Glengoyne. En dat terwijl ik vorig jaar nog het omgekeerde zou gezegd hebben. Hoe smaken kunnen veranderen, he?

Yes. The Fontvieille 35. That is one fine cognac that posses many fine virtues of a great cognac. Is it accurate to call it a junior Louis Treize? Or a poorboy's Louis xiii?

The Age Inconnu of Rémy Martin is called poor man's Louis XIII, but I have never heard the Fontvieille being called like that.

Nice bottle there Ton. Have you tried the Age Inconnu? Would you agree with that assessment?

No I haven't. But I have heard that it is just as good.
I have tried the genuine Louis XIII last year on the Dutch cognac-expo, but I was not impressed. I think the old ones (before the 1990s or so) must have been much better.

I agree. The Louis Xiii is really pricy these days. Take away the crystal bottle and the fancy packaging, the juice itself is probably worth just a few hundred dollars. Between the high price and the risk of lead poisoning, I think the safer bet would be the Age Inconnu
