Ik heb ook enkel maar de Hors d'Age van Paul Beau gedronken. Ik heb hem wel niet als 'repeat buy' gemarkeerd. Ik heb dat wel gedaan met de Très Rare van Paul Giraud. Die vond ik echt heel goed.

Mee eens Johan. In dat vergelijk zou bij mij ook de Tres Rare van Paul Giraud winnen. Des te interessanter dus, die Vieille Réserve.

Volgens mij onderschat je jezelf, heb het je regelmatig horen doen. Nu alleen nog opschrijven.

Leyrat VSOP
Cognac-making in their original form. No artificial stuff. This is an honest VSOP. The other VSOP of this quality that comes to mind would be the Lheraud.

The Leyrat XO Elite and the Leyrat Glory, both fins bois like the VSOP I guess, are also very good cognacs. But...in my opinion a bit expensive for fins bois quality.
Speaking of VSOP's that are worth their existance and not expensive I would say Charbonneau (borderies) en Paul Beau. Maybe many others, but I haven't tried that much VSOP's.
I very much would like to try a Marnier-Lapostolle VSOP of the 1980s or older. And now Lheraud is on the wish list too.

You are right Ton. With the Leyrat XO, I’ve even detected a faint trace of rancio. As for the Extra Glory, My oh my, it’s spectacular. I might be biased with the Extra Glory when compared to the ABK6 Extra because I’ve had the Extra Glory first, and I was very impressed by it. The price had gone up a lot though. The supply had also dwindled. The only place stateside that sells this does not ship to my area. The closest store that has this only sell the 50ml minis, and I have to drive 150km to get there; 300km round trip. I only go there when I am visiting relatives that live nearby.

Ik heb hier 2 samples op tafel staan. 2 x Maxim Trijol. De ene is de Borderies Très Vieille Réserve en de andere is de Dry Collection nr. 1. Waarvoor hartelijk dank, Nicky. Ik moet nog deftig beginnen proeven, maar er is toch al een heel duidelijk verschil te merken in de neus. De TVR is zachter, voller, meer rancio, lichtjes de geur van bloemen (of fruit, maar ik zou niet kunnen zeggen welk fruit dus hou ik het bij bloemen). De Dry Collection nr. 1 ruikt vooral heel scherp de eerste 10 minuten. Zeer prikkelend ook. Er komen geleidelijk aan meer geuren naar voren, iets van aarde, nat mos. Ik ruik precies ook iets dat ik in single malt al ben tegen gekomen. Het lijkt een beetje op de geur van compost. Ik vind de neus minder aangenaam dan de TVR, die nu duidelijker ruikt naar iets boterachtig. Een beetje à la André Petit. Wordt vervolgd.

Die referentie naar single malt is Caol Ila en citrusgeur dus. Merci Nicky.

Never tasted the Lheraud VSOP. Their vintages are out of this world expensive. But I must say, do really really like their XO which I am drinking at this very moment. So will have to lookout to snatch a bottle of the Leyrat VSOP as well when I get the chance. Thanks for the suggestion Fuzhou!
