EDIT: About the price bump. In February 2020 Chateau de Ravignan won a gold medal with their armagnac in the category older than 20yo and distilled before 1999. A little while later they advertised this armagnac (a + 20yo vintage 1991) on their FB page for a staggering 210 €. I nearly choked in my 1978 when I saw this. After 2 weeks or so the price was lowered to 99 € or so.![]()
And it's not even on the price list Mme. Florence Boutin sent men half way March ! I've seen an interview with Florence Boutin on the French tv not long ago. She seems very nice and all. But I don't really get their price settings. I don't mind paying more for top quality, and Chateau de Ravignan delivers this quality, but still the difference is sometimes a little bit too much.
They’ve developed a good reputation. They will do great and be ahead of the curve when brandies becomes more appreciated again. The dilemma is if they increase the price too much, then they will become like Domaine Boingneres, and not sell very much. The good thing about this business however, is that as long has they have deep pockets, then they can afford to let the spirit sit. The longer, the better.
