Wat vinden jullie van Guinness? Ik vind het waarschijnlijk het lekkerste bier, met uitzondering van een frisse lager op warme dagen!

Me hele leven ga ik in de vakanties al naar Ierland, dus met Guinness ben ik behoorlijk opgevoed, misschien ook meteen de reden waarom ik het zo lekker vind....

Een bekend gezegde over Guinness is: "Guinness doesn't travel"... oftewel: drink het in Ierland.

He said, "Well, Guinness is made in Nigeria." I said, "Hold on a second, pal!" But it's true - biggest plant, biggest Guinness plant outside of Dublin is Nigeria.

Waarom? Wat is het verschil tussen een Guinness in een Irish pub hier en eentje in Ierland? Zelfde idee als export Heineken tegenover de 'gewone' variant?

Overigens vind ik een Guinness erg lekker zo af en toe!

Leuk dat je het vraagt! Het grootste verschil zit hem mijninziens tussen een blik Guinness hier en vanuit de tap in Ierland.... Vanuit de tap is het een stuk zachter en romiger...

You don’t have to go as far as the United States to notice a difference in the taste of Guinness. Visitors from the UK comment on how much superior it is in Dublin. Even in the rural areas of Ireland, there is a noticeable difference. I should know as I live in one of those rural areas.

Having heard this conversation many times before, whether it be from the Guinness guy who cleans out the beer lines or from the publican, the only thing that they can agree on is that there is a difference between a pint in Dublin and a pint anywhere else in the country.

Many theories exist on why but the answer you hear the most is it just doesn’t travel well. Maybe it’s the potholes on some of the rural roads or the swirling about in the kegs over the longer journeys.

One acknowledged major difference between here and other countries is the skill level in pouring the pint. It takes time and shouldn’t be done in one pull. Many bars outside Ireland rush the pulling of a pint of Guinness. This has a surprisingly large impact on the general quality and creaminess (your smoother issue) on the pint of the Guinness.

Any rumours that the Irish keep the best for themselves are mean spirited and just aren’t true!

Wat wel weer geinig is bij een blik Guinness is de widget die erin zit. De widget is een balletje met geperst lucht erin dat de lucht loslaat op het moment je het blikje opent. Dit zorgt voor een schuimlaag zoals bij de tap... Na het openen moet je de Guinness meteen inschenken voor het beste resultaat.
